Vespers to focus on Sermon on the Mount during Lent 2018

(Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2018) — Starting tonight the City Road Chapel Vespers Service will be focusing on Jesus’s teaching on God’s Kingdom found in the Sermon on the Mount. The service starts at 6 p.m. and is held in the Welcome Center.

The Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5-7, is one of five teachings of Jesus in Matthew’s gospel on the nature of life in God’s kingdom. The sermon paints a vision of what life in the Kingdom should look like, as well as thinking about the values of the kingdom.

The Vespers service is a mid-week time for praise (through song and prayer), conversation about the scriptures (known as lectio divina or “divine reading”), communion, and intercessory prayer. The service last approximately an hour and is casual and relaxed in nature.
