A message from Pastor Jay Voorhees

Dear City Road Chapel family and friends,

Jay_150Christ is risen! Just a few days ago (as I write this) I was blown away by the power of the resurrection story . . . a story that brings hope for the future. It is an important reminder that God’s story is ever before us, calling us to a great adventure. Likewise, City Road’s story of bringing God’s love to the people of Madison is far from over. We have been given a great task and I believe that there are amazing days ahead of us. God has given us gifts to be used — time, talents, and resources. If we are faithful in using those gifts, God will do wonderful things.

Our facilities are an important gift that we use in all sorts of ways to carry out God’s work in our community. With that gift comes the responsibility of ensuring that our facilities are safe, comfortable, and functional for all. That responsibility has led us to make repairs to our facilities, as well as plan for other maintenance needs to come. In order to accomplish all that we need to do, we are excited to begin a capital stewardship campaign to raise funds for both past and future building needs.

Our theme for this campaign is Ready, Set, Go! It recognizes that we are preparing for the road ahead. We are called by God to go into our community to share God’s love, and are getting ready for that task. We are inspired by the prophet Haggai, whose single task from God was to get God’s people to rebuild the temple. “Before you know it,” God says through Haggai, “I will shake up the sky and earth, the oceans and the field, and I will fill this temple with splendor.” He goes on: “This temple is going to end up far better than it started out, a glorious beginning but an even more glorious finish: a place in which I will hand out holiness and wholeness” (Haggai 2:9, The Message). This vision guides us as we get ready, get set, and go out to proclaim Christ’s message of love to Madison.

I’m pleased that Millie Grammer, Chuck Head, and Gordon McClellan have agreed to serve as the co-chairs of the campaign. They, along with a team of over 30 church leaders, will guide us in understanding how we all can participate in the future of our church through sharing our gifts.

Enclosed is an explanation of the campaign purpose. In the coming weeks, you will receive more information and commitment cards for the 2016 Ready, Set, Go! campaign.

I ask that you take time to pray for our church and God’s continued provision. Offer prayers of praise concerning what City Road Chapel means to you. Prayerfully consider how you can support God’s work in our community. Then we will be prepared for our great adventure. We will be ready and set to go share God’s love.

In Christ’s Service,

Jay Voorhees
Sr. Pastor
