A Quiet Place is a project of the City Road Chapel United Methodist Church to offer a space for rest and renewal for our friends who are living on the streets in Madison, TN. We are reminded that Jesus called to his disciples to come to a quiet place for rest. As we’ve entered into relationship with some of our homeless friends we’ve recognized the need for a quiet space to get warm on a cold day or cool on a hot day and simply rest. We aren’t offering much — a room with tables and chairs, a cup of coffee, and places to charge phones — but we believe that having a place to hang out for 8-10 people at a time offers us a chance to build relationships and help people experience the love of Jesus Christ in a tangible way.
After talking with other service agencies and our friends, we will be opening A Quiet Space on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
In order to make this project work, we are looking for loving and caring people who are willing to give a couple of hours to sit, listen and make sure that we are offering a safe space. We will provide training regarding facility rules, safety and security, and other issues. The work load is light — opening the doors, making sure the coffee pot doesn’t run dry, and listening to the stories of those who drop in.
