It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but before the babe comes in the manger there is a lot of preparation to be done!
The season of Advent is the time in the life of the church in which we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Jesus . . . both as a babe in the manger and in his ultimate return for all of us. In the Christian tradition, the first Sunday of Advent (Dec. 1, 2019) represents the beginning of a new year in the Christian calendar. The word “Advent” comes from a Latin word meaning “the coming,” and this is a time for us to reflect on Christ’s coming to us in a special way. This year, City Road Chapel will be offering several opportunities for preparing for Christ’s coming.
2019 Advent Devotional Guide
Written in the Stars
For the past several years we have partnered with our friends at the Society of St. Andrew to use their Advent devotional guide for our own study and reflection. These devotional guides are offered free of charge and may be picked up in the Welcome Center. This is a great way of joining together in a common time of study about Christ’s coming into the world.
Advent Bible Study:
You are invited to journey with us as we travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem in a fascinating look at the birth of Jesus. The story as told by Adam Hamilton, and the video filmed in the Holy Land will help us experience the birth of Christ in a new way. We will meet on Tuesday mornings Nov. 19 and 26, and Dec. 3, 10, and 17 at 9:30. Please join us for this moving story of what really happened when God touched this planet. Click here to register for the class.
Songs for a Winter’s Night:
Come join us for a special musical celebration of the Advent and Christmas season. Featuring musicians from throughout our church at the Madison community, we will celebrate both the religious and cultural meaning of the season.

Feast Community Meal
Dec. 22, 2019
On the 4th Sunday of each month, the people of City Road Chapel UMC offer expressions of God’s love through our Feast Community Meal project. Given the focus during Advent on gifting others, this is a special time to support our neighbors by hosting a free community dinner and entertainment that evening. We want to encourage all to think about helping out on this special Service Sunday. For more information on the Feast Community Meal, please call the church office at (615) 868-1673
