Tennessee legislators, pastors to join Barber in call on clergy nationwide to take action to confront silencing of lawmakers

TENNESSEE – Bishop William J. Barber II, members of the Repairers of the Breach Prophetic Council and Tennessee lawmakers and pastors will hold an emergency virtual field hearing on Good Friday to confront the effort by GOP extremists to expel Tennessee State Reps. Gloria Johnson, Justin Jones and Justin Pearson for standing up for dead children.
“Republican extremists in the Tennessee legislature want to silence the voices of dead children,” Bishop Barber said. “They are impeding three brave legislators, who articulate the concerns of millions, because they aim to keep families whose children were murdered unseen and unheard.”
More than 10,000 clergy from Repairers of the Breach’s nationwide action network and Prophetic Council are invited to attend the emergency hearing, where Bishop Barber will implore members of the clergy to get directly involved in the movement for justice in this moment of extremist attempts to subvert democracy. Press are invited to attend and will have an opportunity to ask questions.
The hearing comes after Reps. Johnson, Jones and Pearson led a peaceful protest when extremist Republicans tried to cut off debate around last month’s elementary school shooting in Nashville.
