Are YOU the Church?

How often do we hear folks say that “I wish the church would do _________?” For that matter, how often do we hear OURSELVES say those words? And yet, if we read what the scriptures say about the church, the fact is that those of us who claim to follow Jesus ARE the church! As the hymn states, “The church is not a building. The church is not a steeple. The church is not a resting place. The church is a people!” Friends, WE are the church!

Starting on October 8 we will be thinking about what it means for us to be church together. How is it that we live out our call to be church through our time, our gifts, and our witness? Each week we will unpack the meaning of that simple phrase: We Are The Church!

On Sunday, October 29, all who love and participate in the ministries of the City Road Chapel UMC will be asked to express their commitment to God’s work among us. This includes commitments of time, focus, and financial giving. However, this is not simply a “pledge campaign” to determine the budget for the next year. No, this is an invitation to think about how God has gifted us and called us to contribute to the building up of the body of Christ, that is, how we are each being called to be the church.

Please make a special effort to be present in worship throughout October as we proclaim together that WE ARE THE CHURCH!
